RunSignup | GiveSignup has released the 2.0 version of their free photo platform for endurance events and nonprofit ticket events. With hybrid events (those with both in-person and virtual elements) overtaking the 2021 event scene, Photos 2.0 creates a central hub for an event celebration including all participants.

The free RunSignup | GiveSignup photo platform is built on a scalable, robust infrastructure that can handle hundreds of millions of photos, including those from race organizers, professional photographers, and participants. Highlights of the new platform include:

  • Participant uploading of photos (great for virtual events!)
  • Integration of photos with results for easy access
  • Editable photo albums with the option to select a cover photo
  • Improved auto-tagging of photos by bib number
  • Crowd-sourced tagging for events without bibs
  • Option to add a sponsor logo watermark
  • Photo stats for reporting views to sponsors
  • Photo API allowing third party developers to integrate with the system

The photo platform also includes multiple mechanisms to prevent abuse or inappropriate use, including requiring login for participant uploads and automatically evaluating appropriateness via Amazon AWS Artificial Intelligence. Additionally, all auto-tagging is by bib numbers with no facial recognition to prevent any legal issues, and comments are not allowed to remove the overhead of content moderation.

RunSignup Founder and CEO Bob Bickel said, “Everyone loves photos. The Photos 2.0 platform makes it easy for races and nonprofits to collect photos from across their event and share them in easy to navigate albums on their website. While it’s a great fit for the hybrid events we’re seeing in 2021, it’s also a great way for event organizers to add value to their event for years to come – for free.”
