Running In The USA
Number of races: 48,000
When it comes to race directories, they don’t come any bigger than RunningInTheUSA.com. Truly, this is the one US race directory to rule them all. Add your race for free and instantly be found by hundreds of thousands of racers.
We don’t know exactly how many of the 52k+ events on EndureStrong.com are running (typically in these directories, most are), but the answer has to be ‘plenty’! With so many events already onboard, check before you add yours – it could be on the directory already and all you’d have to do is claim it.
Not only is Race Finder – RunnersWorld.com‘s race directory – backed by the world’s largest running magazine, but also one of the US’ top running websites. According to the 2016 Runner Survey by RunningUSA, RunnersWorld.com is second only to Active.com for popularity amongst runners. Need to say more?
On The RUN Events

With thousands of races nationwide, OnTheRUNEvents.com is not a race directory to be overlooked in your quest for freely promoting your race online. The listings are quire basis with a big free-style text box to add any detail of your race you deem worthwhile.

RRCA do a great job of promoting the sport of running and have a wealth of resources that can help give your race a lift. Amongst them, a decent-sized directory with great search functionality you can be sure runners are using to find your race.
Number of races: 10,000
We love RacePlace. They offer an excellent race discovery website that sees upwards of 1,000 race searches per day. The website has plenty to keep racers coming back and more than 350k of them do every year.
Number of races: 500+
Another great looking race discovery website with an inventory (at time of writing this) of about 500 races and growing. You can search for events by state and distance and you can add your own for free (don’t even need to register).
GetSetUSA.com offers a basic listing for your race for free with several premium options from there on – including email blast packages (select states only) – starting at $45. It’s fair to say they are not one of the largest directories, although the wealth of listings is state-dependent.
A modest-sized searchable race directory. You can submit your race for free once – you don’t event have to register – and then keep refreshing the race date every year without the need to add a new entry.
Kukimbe is a race discovery app available on both iOS and Android and currently mostly catering for US races. App race directories seem to be the new thing and Kukimbe are definitely doing well for inventory, with several thousand races on the platform. If your race isn’t already on, you’ll be able to add it for free.
Marathons & Half-Marathons
Free-to-list race directories specifically for marathons and half marathons (see more in international race directories)
A very popular race directory & resource for marathons. Registering your race takes two steps and it all starts with registering with the site by clicking the link below.
If you’re organising one of the 1,100 or so marathons taking place in the US, you’ll need all the maniacs you can lay your hands on. So jump on to Marathon Maniacs and get started with reaching those runners!
Half Fanatics are the sister site to Marathon Maniacs (nifty, eh?) and their users are “half-marathon crazy” (apparently). Definitely a key directory for your half. Don’t get confused that the link below takes you to the Marathon Maniacs website – same database, different links.
Half Marathons is both the most popular and fastest growing event distance. That also makes it one of the most competitive. HalfMarathons.net offers a great, well-designed website with a very comprehensive list of US (and some international) half marathons. You gotta be on this one.
A few more directories to try, if you’re planning an ultramarathon (see more in international race directories)
Number of races: 700
Listing your ultra on the largest US ultrarunning magazine’s race directory should be a no-brainer. So don’t think about it! The listing is fairly basic, but the audience is prime and you get to add a link back to your race website.
Mud, Obstacle, Trail & Adventure Races
A collection of free-to-list race directories specifically catering to the mud, obstacle, trail and adventure racing scenes (see more in international race directories)
Number of races: 1,000
Something is stirring at ATRA, the American Trail Running Association. From recent communications, it looks like ATRA has woken from a period of lethargy and is getting a lot more energetic. That includes their website. If you organise a trail race, you got to be on the ATRA directory.
Mud Run Guide
Number of races: 800
List on MudRunGuide.com and you’re listing on the strongest OCR/Mud Race directory in the US. Not only that, but your event will also appear on sites like Mud & Adventure as a bonus! These guys have built a very active 50k+ Facebook audience with another 11k+ followers on Twitter, so they must be doing something right!
