GiveSignup | RunSignup, the leading technology provider for endurance and nonprofit events in the U.S., released a roundup of events across the country showing a significant resurgence of in-person running. The roundup features 50 live events across 42 states, ranging in size from under a hundred participants to more than 5,000 runners.

Key takeaways from the current event calendar include:

  • Hybrid events are dominating, with most events offering a virtual option to complement their in-person component and expand their pool of potential participants.
  • Events are modifying to meet state and local requirements, with extended start times, wave starts, multi-day events, and re-imagined race day processes.
  • Calendars are filling up fast. With optimistic projections for the summer and fall, races are moving to get registration open and lock in participants now.
  • Events are increasing in size. Over the summer, most in-person events were under 500 participants as race organizers tested out new options for keeping people safe. The larger events in Q4 of 2020 and Q1 of 2021 routinely topped 1,000 in-person participants.

GiveSignup | RunSignup Founder and CEO Bob Bickel said, “We know there will still be regional differences and likely some ups and downs throughout the year, but we are encouraged by the signs of recovery that we are seeing. This week, for the first time in a year, transactions on our platform exceeded 2019 levels, with the 60% of those coming from upcoming in-person events. We know that nonprofits and event management companies rely of each of those events for revenue and it’s exciting to see improvement.”
